For Ace -- Avoiding entry into stair-case myopia. Dear Ace, "All [people] occasionally stumble upon the truth - but most pick themselves up, dust themselves off, and carry on as if nothing had happened." Winston Churchill "All great truths begin as blasphemies." George Bernard Shaw "The important thing is to not stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing". Albert Einstein To avoid stair-case myopia -- it is necessary to clear your vision back to normal, and then just montor your Snellen to make certain you always PASS
strabismus, glasses not working Hi I wrote on March 15 regarding my son. Here is the link in case is of any use, there were a lot of nice people helping me. http://groups.google.com/group/sci.med.vision/browse_thread/thread/a60a380fa37f217e/1571523d8d36a772?lnk=gst&q=%22four+years+old%22&rnum=5#1571523d8d36a772 To make the story short: My four years old boy was diagnosed with strabismus and amblyopia. He started crossing (in) his right eye when he was almost 4 years old. The ophthalmologist prescribed glasses OD +2.25 (sphere) OS +1.75 (+0.25) and then advised us to patch him 2 hours a day, and do some manual act
Sore eyes - TV / Monitors / Flurecent Lights BRIEF OVERVIEW ============== I have been using a computer quiet intensly over the last 15 years, and over the last 5 years probably for at least 8 hours a day, every day. I usually take breaks every 2-3 hours or so. For the last 3 months i haven't been able to watch TV, use a computer or be around flurecent lights. Even normal lights make my eyes sore, although normal sunlight doesn't usually cause them to get sore. I have read all similar threads and tried various practitioners but so far i am unable to find a solution and was wondering if anyone might be able to help or even point me in th
Glasses for 5 year-old twins? We have 5 year-old identical twins who will turn 6 next month. The optometrist checked them 3 years ago and said they needed glasses, but a second opinion from 2 child opthamologists said they could do without glasses. They were just checked again by the same optometrist who said they are both far-sighted with a weaker right eye and wrote a prescription for something in the range of -1.75. I noticed that they could both read the tiniest paragraph on the cardboard sheet as well as identify the smallest pictures, so they can obviously compensate (one of the benefits of being so young) a
| For Bill -- Could you check these statistics? Dear prevention minded friends, Nothing will ever be attempted if all possible objections must be first overcome. Samuel Johnson Subject: A statistical engineering study to determine if the fundamental eye is dynamic -- vs. passive. ************************************** Snippet from sci.med.vision: The null hypothesis as stated by Majority-opinion Dr G, Otis> Yes, this is the truth. | switching from a lifetime of hard lenses/rpgs to soft lenses I am considering switching to softlenses after a lifetime of hard lenses/RPG. I am very myopic, although I have always been correctable to perfect enough vision with my contacts. Someone in my other (presbyobia) thread said something that got me thinking: Can someone with very strong nearsightedness be corrected with soft lenses? Is that a factor, or is that irrelevant in this day and age. Thanks. (Keep in mind I am looking for bi or multifocal lenses given time is marching on and with it, presbyopia). -- Message posted via MedKB.com http://www.medkb.com/Uwe/Forums.aspx/vision/200608/1 |
Loss of peripheral vision I have developed a sight problem within the last 5 years, where part of my peripheral visual field has gone in both eyes. The scotoma (I think that's the right word) are just above the central vision. If I stand in front of an Amsler grid and blink each eye separately, I can see dark areas where the vision has gone. My right eye is worse, it's a triangular area, arced at the bottom, the left eye just appears to be a line going from outside to above centre. Luckily they don't overlap too much so I can see pretty well still, but where they do overlap, a line of light is apparent, just like I've
Will ultrasonic cleaner strip lens coatings? I'm considering an ultrasonic cleaner for my eyeglasses, but I'm worried it might affect my lens coatings.
Is It Worth Removing the IOL? I had cataract surgery 12 days ago in my right eye (my left eye doesn't have useable central vision due to subretinal bleeding long time ago). I wanted my eye set for reading distance and my surgeon did a great job. The diopter of my right eye was -18.00D before the surgery and he put a -2.00D AcrySof IOL to get me to -2.50D after the surgery (BCVA is 20/30). I've had two post-op visits to my surgeon and one visit to my retina specialist. According to them, everything looks good. Although I see far better than ever, I'm not too happy because of the following two things. One, when I rea
Chemical Reaction May Have Caused Eye Infections "Chemical Reaction May Have Caused Eye Infections", Forbes, August 22, 2006, Link: http://www.forbes.com/forbeslife/health/feeds/hscout/2006/08/22/hscout534512.html Government researchers report that a recent outbreak of severe eye infections was indeed associated with the use of ReNu with MoistureLoc contact lens solution, but a chemical reaction that can occur with the solution appears to be the actual culprit. Officials also believe the fungal contamination occurred in patients' homes, and not in the manufacturing or storage process. "We think that there's something about the chemical ma
| Contact Lenses Rotating My CLs seem to rotate quite frequently. I thought this would be a common complaint with toric CLs, but my optician says I'm his first with this problem. | Blinking Rate vs Closing the Eyes My contact lens optician noted to me that I have some protein deposition and a rather less than helpful tear viscosity. He suggests I try blinking more frequently. I'll try this, but I wonder about closing my eyes every so often. Are blinks more efficient than closed eye periods? Brian -- Auckland NEW ZEALAND |
